Queensland Motor Dealer License

Completion of this course satisfies the educational prerequisite required to apply for a Motor Dealer Licence with the Queensland Office of Fair Trading. Complete the latest AUR16 modules and learn all there is to know about operating as a dealer in the motor vehicle industry, including how to interact with customers, comply with all legal requirements, determine inventory and stock needs and implement sales procedures in as short and convenient a time as possible.

You do not need to be employed or working in the industry to obtain a dealer licence – just complete this course and you can apply.

Most of our courses are competency based, meaning to pass you just need to be able to display a sufficient grasp of the course content. Because of this, students are free to submit, edit and re-submit assessments as many times as required to achieve the required level of competency. In the event a submitted answer is insufficient a training advisor will be in contact to discuss what is required.

Remember, we are here to help and support you throughout the learning journey. If you do not achieve the required outcome, we will work with you to ensure you successfully complete your course.

A QLD Motor Dealer Licence enables the holder to work as an independent operator, a contractor or be in charge of a place of business.

You can:

  • Sell new or used motor vehicles (including parts)
  • Obtain a used motor vehicle to sell (including parts)
  • Sell a new or used motor vehicle of consignment
  • Sell a leased motor vehicle to a lessee
  • Negotiate on a person’s behalf to buy or sell a new or used motor vehicle
  • Attend auctions and purchase vehicles
  • Employ licenced sales staff

Upon successful completion of the course, an electronic statement of attainment will be issued to you with an original copy sent by registered mail.

1. Take this certificate (electronic copy is fine) and attach it to an application form (you can register as an individual or corporation).

2. Submit both the form, the statement of attainment and a valid police clearance to Queensland Fair Trading in post or in person.

3. Once all paperwork has been submitted and approved, Fair Trading will issue your licence.

The course fee is a one-off payment but you will need to pay a yearly registration fee with QLD Fair Trading to maintain your licence.

For an individual motor dealer licence:

$1457.60 for 1 year

$2732.60 for 3 years

For a corporate motor dealer licence:

$829.40 for 1 year

$$1495.60 for 3 years

Criminal history check fee: $39.35

It is the responsibility of the individual to ensure they meet QLD Fair Trading licencing eligibility requirements prior to enrolment. No refund shall be issued to any student who enrols but is deemed ineligible to obtain a licence by QLD Fair Trading. 

The course consists of 9 online modules and is a delivered in an online self-paced learning environment . To complete the modules, students must progress through the course content and answer a set of short-answer and multiple-choice questions. These questions are available to you the second you login so it is up to the individual how long it takes to complete the course. If you are familiar with the industry and want to attempt the questions immediately, using the in-built index as reference, you could do so, downloading and saving all the course notes for future reference. If you are new to industry and want to read through the course notes in their entirety first, you can do that too. It really is up to you.

There is no limit on how many times you can submit and edit your answers – simply work through until you’re satisfied. If you get stuck at any point you can speak directly with your training assessor by calling 1300 807 177 or emailing training@fusioncollege.com during business hours.

Average duration (including certificate issue) – 10 – 30 hours

Prior to commencement of your course, you will be required to complete both a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test and an Additional Support Survey.
